Hebridean Family

From my book  ‘Hebrideans – The Photographs of Monica Weller’

“I came to the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland in 1995. I was an amateur photographer. I didn’t know it then but it was a turning point in my photography. On a small ferry boat between the island of Berneray and Leverburgh in South Harris, I photographed a woman with her three children (Hebridean Family). A moment in time. Then the moment was gone. This was the voyage that sealed my love affair with the Hebridean people”.

“In the Hebrides, each day for me is an adrenalin fix – the senses being lifted with a hundred new feelings, the atmosphere, the Gaelic chatter, a solitary glance from a stranger. There is space, belonging and witnessing life in the raw” ….. from my book ‘Hebrideans – The Photographs of Monica Weller’.
